Here is a good video by Eastwood on setting up the MIG and welding. A lot of people use the MIG for body work, I prefer the oxy/act torch for body work, just more flexible for controlling heat when welding. Big mistake a lot of people make when welding is not allowing for metal expansion due to the heat generated, and that causes warpage of the base metal that a lot of welder’s experience and must work to correct by heating and rapid cooling of the base metal. If you leave a 1/16 or 3/32 gap between the base and part you are joining, that will prevent warpage as the heated metal has room to expand, and when cool maintains the base metal form. Use multiple tacks one inch space between along the area you plan to weld to prevent deforming between pieces. The MIG is great for straight welding, no variance in thickness or gaps, where the oxy/act heat can be controlled by varying the angle of the torch while feeding the welding rod, we all have our preferences. The biggest item is to set up the MIG for the thickness of metal you plan to weld without burning holes through or running too cold a puddle, take your time in doing that to get it right.
