318 oil pan/dipstick questions

buddy has a 70 D200 that was converted with dodge parts to W200. they had left the front sump pan on it and it was dented in good from the axle. he just put a newer engine in with rear sump which he thinks is correct and it looks right but now the dipstick that enters at front of engine doesn't read anything.

Were rear sump 318s equipped with dipstick in another location?
