If your state determines registration fees based on weight of the vehicle, then an aluminum bed would help reduce the cost. Under 5,000 pounds the fees are usually pretty reasonable, over it can be a big hike, over 10,000 a bigger hike in fees, determine how your state does it. Before you buy an aluminum bed, weight the trucks as suggested, determine the weight of the bed to see if you will have an advantage. You might need to go with a flatbed if cost is a concern.
