This is very helpful to read. In my W500, I replaced the 318 LA that was put in it at some point with a correct 318 Poly that I had a machinist rebuild. Front sump.
The dipstick did not read anything even with the correct 6 quarts of oil.
One thing I learned was the length of the dipstick tube is said (supposed) to be 8” above the block hole for the poly, so I shortened it some, That helped some, but I still need a longer dipstick for a correct reading.
So, with modern “318” parts one gets for a rebuild you may not have the right dipstick or tube for your particular version, either poly or LA.?
I’ll check Summit for one like the one mentioned in link.
