Mocking up fuel / brake lines

I think I'm going to try and bend my own fuel and brake lines for the 52 B-3-PW. I have 2 nice Rigid tubing benders and a MAC double flare set to help. Someone mentioned using 10 gauge wire to use as an example of the correct bends/length of tubing. Is their a smarter way to mock up the lengths before cutting?
