I have disks in front and drums in the rear on both my trucks.
The WC53 has a hydroboost system and the braking is excellent. I do not have a proportioning valve. Both front and rear lock up at the same time and braking is balanced and in control. I did notice that the left front is grabbing a little the last time I had it out after sitting for months so I need to check that.
THe PW also does not have a proportioning valve. It has a vacuum booster. It brakes are good but not as good as the WC53. I have a Ray Suiter under the floor with a dual master cylinder. I am sure that the disks are doing the majority of the work. I added disks to the front after I ran through a red light with a full load. I was coming down a slight hill and applied the brakes a block before the light. I had good brakes to start with then the drums got warm and the brakes faded out. Lucky for me there was no one in front of me and the cross traffic had not entered the intersection as I hit the horn as soon as I knew I was in trouble. No such problems with the front disks.
I do have Rays kits to do disks on both rear axles.
