Hi Paul, I’m sure this takes it to a crazy obsessive level but the Detroit mechanics that maintained & built the engines in our tugboats used to use a clean metal can & they would heat the oil with a tiger torch & fill the engines with heated oil. Was it necessary? Nope but they were renowned in BC for regularly getting 20k hours out of an 8V92 which was almost unheard of back in those days. I remember going down in the engine room where they were assembling an engine…they had white sheets spread everywhere…it was like a hospital down there :)
