I did the Pertronix ignition conversion on my 251
engine in my Bombardier tracked skidder probably 5 years ago. I called the company and they directed me to the right kit for my engine. At least back 5 years ago they had 2 versions. One version if left with the key on for a period of time \the kit would overheat and burn up. The other version has protection that the key can be left on forever with the engine not running and no damage will happen. Be sure you get that version, its only a little more money. The difference in starting between a point system and electronic is night and day.
In the winter at 30 below, the 251 engine lights right up. I would never go back to a point ignition.
