Installing the glass has been the most humbling experience of this rebuild. One wing window went together with a bit of soapy water and whacks from a rubber mallet. I broke one wing window glass when the window lock contacted the tabletop, pressing on the frame and cracked the glass.
I then decided to tackle the front windshield and had great success!! Both sides of glass went in without fighting and I put on the top half, again no problem. Put in the four screws connecting the halves, trimmed the rubber and turned it over to admire the perfect windshield. Then I heard "tink" and one side split. Arghhhhhh,.. I walked away and called it a day.
An hour later I was showing my wife the failed glass and she says Hey, isnt that a crack in the other side! It had split horizontally @$#%$&*^%*$^&!!!! I used the recommended 1/16 setting tape, and it went together with hand pressure, no taps with the rubber mallet. I have reordered the three-window glass pieces, and I will go after this again.
I am thinking I will use 3/64 next time. I have also considered just putting the rubber tape in the channel bottom as a bumper/guide in 6-8 spots and then using 3m 08693 Window Setting Urethane Glass Adhesive to fill the gap, as shown in the PIF. I do know this will make it really a bugger to remove if I have a window split on me from a rock. I am open to all suggestions or ways that you had success with glass replacement. Thanks, in advance!
